“I’m not Trump” this is a quote from almost every candidate running in the 2020 presidential election. There are a few main candidates that have come to the surface of the elections.
The main republican candidate is obviously Donald Trump. There have been three republican candidates running against him, however Mark Sandford and Joe Walsh have dropped out for the running while William Weld is still in with Trump. As for the Democratic party there were twenty-eight candidates. Twenty of these candidates dropped out of the running. The eight candidates still going strong in the race include Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, and Elizabeth Warren.
In the democratic polls, Pete Buttigieg is leading with Bernie Sanders one delegate behind. Davis High students were asked what they predicted the turnout for this election. “I think Trump will stay in office, presidents don’t serve only one term very often.”, said Brayden Saxey. Another student went a totally different direction in their predictions. “Bernie all the way!”, says Porter Archibald. This student portrays a more moderate view on the election, “It’s really 50/50 for me. It depends who the democratic candidate ends up being, but I think it’ll be a close election.
As we all get closer to adulthood we get closer to being able to vote in political elections. Although many people hear about the elections not many people vote. Last election only 55.7% of people voted. In a poll I conducted, 72% are planning on voting in the 2020 election. The goal is to have 100% of eligible voter’s to go out and vote, so register and vote!
